Configuration Gate Chassis Profiles Chassis Profiles view Chassis Profile form

The Chassis Profile form enables you to add and edit chassis profiles. A chassis profile defines the physical characteristics of a chassis configuration for a truck, such as a truck with two 40' chassis. If you receive multi-trailer trucks at your facility that carry three or more TEUs, then you can use this form to define chassis profiles.

With chassis profiling, N4 supports 11 different positions on up to three 40' chassis for a truck. For more information, see Supported truck positions (on page 1).

If you only receive trucks with a maximum of two TEUs, then N4 handles these trucks using a default chassis configuration. This eliminates the need to define chassis profiles and collect additional chassis data at the gate.

For multi-trailer chassis configurations, you should define chassis profiles according to the chassis data you collect at the gate. For example, if you have an automated gate with chassis identification equipment that can identify a truck with two 40' chassis verses a truck with two 20' chassis, then you can define chassis profiles for these different configurations. However, if the chassis identification equipment cannot identify a chassis with center pins verses a chassis without center pins, then you should not define different chassis profiles based on only the center pins.

When processing a gate transaction, N4 searches for one matching chassis profile by comparing the chassis information provided at the gate against all of the existing chassis profiles defined in N4. Chassis information used to select a chassis profile can be provided in a truck visit form in the following fields:

Any combination of these fields may be provided. However, if you only define one chassis profile in N4, then N4 always selects that chassis profile regardless of the chassis information provided at the gate.

To ensure that N4 selects the correct chassis profile, we recommend that you define the minimum number of chassis profiles to select from. If N4 selects the wrong chassis profile or finds more than one matching chassis profile, this can result in incorrectly rejecting a gate transaction due to one of the reject chassis profile business tasks failing. In this case, N4 does not assign any chassis profile to the truck visit details and, at automated terminals, sets the default vehicle type (OTR) in the Dest_Vehicle_Type/Orig_Vehicle_Type fields of the ASC_ORDERS table. In addition, N4 logs the following error message at the WARN level: "Multiple chassis profiles matching truck visit details. Specify chassis TEU/count in Truck Visit Details to filter or configure the chassis profile correctly."

To add or edit a chassis profile:

  1. In the Profile Id field, enter a unique identifier for this chassis profile.

  1. In the Chs 1 TEU field, enter the TEU size of the first chassis behind the truck cab. The TEU size refers to the number of TEUs a chassis can carry. For example, the TEU size of a 20' chassis is 1 and of a 40' chassis is 2.

If a truck has more than one chassis, the first chassis is the chassis closest to the truck cab.

  1. Enter any optional information, such as the TEU size of up to two additional chassis.

  2. Click Save.

The following table lists the optional fields in the Chassis Profile form:

Field Label

Description

Chs 1 TEU

Enter the TEU size for the first chassis behind the truck cab. The TEU size refers to the number of TEUs a chassis can carry. For example, the TEU size of a 40' chassis is 2.

If a truck has more than one chassis, the first chassis is the chassis closest to the truck cab.

Chs 2 TEU

Enter the TEU size for the second chassis behind the truck cab.

Chs 3 TEU

Enter the TEU size for the third chassis behind the truck cab.

Center Pins?

Select this check box if the chassis has center pins for carrying two 20' containers.

Prohibited?

Select this check box if this chassis profile is prohibited or requires special attention.

Length (m)

Enter the overall length of the chassis profile.

For ASC operations, you must specify the chassis length at the gate for N4 to be able to detect a 30-foot chassis. If this information is missing, N4 uses the Length (m) field in the Chassis Profile form (on page 1). If the chassis length is not provided via any of these fields, N4 sends incorrect chassis type information to the equipment control system of the yard crane.

If selecting a chassis profile, N4 considers chassis profiles with a length within 2m of the length specified in a gate form. For example, if a clerk enters 8m in the Chassis Length field in a gate form, N4 considers chassis profiles with lengths of 6 - 10m.

Weight (kg)

Enter the weight of the chassis profile.

Heavy Lift?

Select this check box if the chassis profile is for a heavy lift chassis.
